Why do co-packers set minimums?
Every run needs setup, cleaning and changeover time on the line before the first bag fills. A minimum makes sure the run is long enough to carry that time.
Minimums and costs
Performance Co-Packing is a co-packer in Hughson, California for tree nuts, dried fruit and snack products, with a published minimum of 40,000 bags for stand-up pouches and every price quoted per project.
The minimum
Final pack configuration depends on product and project requirements.
What moves the price
The line time and labor to fill, seal and case your product, usually priced per unit or per case.
Cleaning and resetting the line between products. A longer run spreads it over more bags.
Pouches or film, cases and labels, priced into the quote when the packer buys them.
Only part of the price when the packer sources them; when you supply the product, you pay for packing alone.
Smaller packs mean more pouches, seals and cases for every pound of product.
Each extra flavor or size is another changeover on the schedule.

Cost questions
Every run needs setup, cleaning and changeover time on the line before the first bag fills. A minimum makes sure the run is long enough to carry that time.
It depends on the product, the pack, the volume and who buys the ingredients and packaging, so most co-packers quote per project. Performance Co-Packing publishes no rate card; send your details and the quote is built from them.
Get a quoteBelow the volume that keeps a line busy, co-packing usually costs less, because the packer already carries the building, equipment, staff and audits. Your own plant starts to make sense once your volume would keep a line busy on its own.
That minimum suits brands already selling in volume or launching into retail. If you’re close, send your volume and timing anyway; if you’re far below it, a small-batch packer is usually the better first step.
